Description

What is melatonin?

Melatonin is a natural hormone that helps regulate your sleep cycle, reducing the symptoms of jet lag and helping your body clock adjust faster to a new time zone. Your body releases melatonin after dark, and it promotes restful sleep and supports your body's circadian rhythm.

How does Melatonin work?

As darkness falls, your body naturally increases melatonin levels, signalling that it's time to sleep. However, traveling across time zones can disrupt this cycle, making it harder to rest. Melatonin tablets help align your body clock with your destination’s nighttime, easing the adjustment and reducing jet lag.

Where to buy Melatonin?

You can buy Melatonin from The Naked Pharmacy by completing a short consultation. Melatonin tablets cannot be purchased over the counter and require a prescription.

Learn more about Jet Lag

What is Jet Lag?

Jet lag, also called jet lag disorder, is a temporary sleep problem that can affect anyone who quickly travels across several time zones.

Your body has its own internal clock, called circadian rhythms. They signal to your body when to stay awake and when to sleep.

Jet lag occurs because your body's internal clock is synced to your original time zone. It hasn't changed to the time zone of where you've travelled. The more time zones crossed, the more likely you are to experience jet lag.

Jet lag can cause daytime fatigue, an unwell feeling, trouble staying alert and stomach problems. Although symptoms are temporary, they can affect your comfort while on vacation or during a business trip. But you can take steps to help prevent or lessen the effects of jet lag.

What are the Symptoms of Jet Lag?
  • The risk of jet lag symptoms increases with the number of time zones you cross when flying. Travellers do not usually suffer from jet lag unless they cross at least three time zones. The more time zones you cross, the more noticeable the time difference will be.
  • The most common jet lag symptom is a disturbed sleeping cycle. You may find it difficult to sleep at night and stay awake during the daytime at your destination. As a result, you may feel lethargic, tired and have problems concentrating.

Other possible symptoms of jet lag include:

  • Digestion problems such as nausea, indigestion, diarrhoea and constipation.
  • Changes in appetite
  • Confusion and light-headedness
  • Irritability and light-headedness
  • Feelings of disorientation and clumsiness
  • Memory problems
  • Increased sweating
  • Headaches
  • Sore muscles
  • Generally feeling unwell
  • Irregular periods (affect women who travel regularly)
  • These symptoms should subside within 2 days. Depending on how many time zones you cross, they may remain for several days.
How can I overcome Jet Lag?

Although it is difficult to avoid jet lag entirely when travelling over long distances, there are steps you can take to overcome jet lag sooner.

  • Begin your journey well rested, after a good night’s sleep.
  • Start settling into the correct routine while you are still on the plane, by trying to sleep when it is nighttime at your destination.
  • Once you have arrived, you should try to adapt to the correct schedule as soon as possible.
  • You can also take medication to help manage your symptoms to relieve jet lag faster.
What Melatonin would I be receiving?

If you buy melatonin from us for Jet Lag you would receive Syncrodin 3mg tabs

How do I take Melatonin 3mg tablets?

Generally, one Syncrodin 3 mg tablet is taken daily for a maximum of 5 days.

Two 3 mg tablets can be taken if one tablet does not sufficiently relieve the symptoms.

The first Syncrodin dose should be taken when arriving at your destination, at the time you usually go to bed; this time should not be before 20:00 hours or after 04:00 hours at your destination.

Also take Syncrodin at the time you usually go to bed on the following days. You can be treated with Syncrodin for a maximum of 5 days, on 16 or fewer occasions a year.

How should they be consumed?

Tablets must be swallowed whole (not broken or chewed) with water or fluid, and food should not be eaten either 2 hours before or 2 hours after taking the tablet(s) as food can alter melatonin levels in the blood. Additionally, consuming alcohol is not recommended, as it not only impairs sleep but may worsen some symptoms of jet lag such as morning tiredness and concentration.

Contact your doctor if you have taken too much Syncrodin and do not feel well. If you forget your bedtime dose, you may take the tablet(s) if you wake during the night but only if it is before 04:00 hours.

Side effects from taking Syncrodin are rare. If you do experience adverse effects, please contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Melatonin vs Magnesium: Which One is Right for Your Sleep?

Struggling with sleep? Whether you have trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking up feeling refreshed, melatonin and magnesium can help—but they work in different ways.

What’s the difference between melatonin and magnesium?

Melatonin is your body’s natural sleep hormone, helping regulate your sleep-wake cycle. It’s best used as a short-term reset for issues like jet lag or irregular sleep patterns. Magnesium, on the other hand, helps relax the nervous system, reducing stress and nighttime wake-ups for deeper, more restorative sleep.

When should I take melatonin?

Melatonin is useful if your sleep schedule is out of sync. It’s not meant for long-term use but can be helpful for:

Short-term sleep issues (adults): 2mg modified-release tablet (prescription only) for up to 13 weeks.

Jet lag (adults): 3mg standard-release tablet for up to five days.

How does magnesium help with sleep?

Magnesium supports deep sleep by relaxing muscles, calming the nervous system, and promoting GABA, the brain’s main calming neurotransmitter. Unlike melatonin, magnesium can be taken long-term for consistent sleep support.

Can I take melatonin and magnesium together?

Yes! Many people use melatonin to get their sleep cycle back on track while taking magnesium for ongoing, quality sleep.

Which one should I choose?

  • If your sleep schedule is off → Use melatonin for a short-term reset.
  • If you wake up often or feel restless at night → Magnesium can help keep you in deep sleep.
  • For long-term sleep support → Magnesium is your best bet.
